As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, communities across the country are reflecting on the traditions, organizations, and local institutions that help define who we are. In Newport, Rhode Island, one of those traditions is stepping onto the field for its own milestone season.
The Newport Gulls are celebrating their 25th anniversary in Newport during the 2026 season, marking a quarter-century of summer baseball at historic Cardines Field. Since arriving in Newport in 2001, the Gulls have become far more than a baseball team. They have become a community tradition, bringing together families, visitors, volunteers, host families, and baseball fans for generations. (Newport Gulls)

Nestled in the heart of Newport, Cardines Field offers a baseball experience that feels increasingly rare in today's fast-paced world. Children chase foul balls, families gather in the stands, and neighbors reconnect on warm summer evenings. It's a reminder that America's pastime is still very much alive in communities where the game remains rooted in tradition.
The Gulls have built one of the most successful programs in collegiate summer baseball, capturing eight New England Collegiate Baseball League championships and helping more than 300 players advance to professional baseball, including dozens who eventually reached Major League Baseball. (Newport Gulls)

Yet perhaps their greatest achievement is their impact beyond the field. Through youth camps, reading programs, scholarships, charitable initiatives, and community outreach, the organization has contributed more than $1 million back to the local community since 2001. (Newport Gulls)
This anniversary season will feature special celebrations, alumni reunions, and a Hall of Fame induction ceremony, bringing together former players, coaches, volunteers, host families, and fans who have helped shape the organization's history over the past 25 years. (Newport Gulls)

As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, stories like the Newport Gulls remind us that history is not only found in monuments and museums. It is found in summer evenings at the ballpark, in the volunteers who make community events possible, and in the traditions that bring people together year after year.
Whether you're a lifelong baseball fan, a visitor exploring Newport, or a family looking for an affordable summer outing, the Newport Gulls offer an experience that captures the spirit of both Rhode Island and America itself.
Twenty-five years later, the tradition continues…
And the next chapter is just beginning!!
The Gulls have a lot of fun things planned this season. I hop to see you at the ball field!
